Vectorize a logo

A logo as a raster file is fine on a website and nowhere else. As soon as it goes on a sign, a flag or a milling machine, the information where the edge actually runs is missing. A path knows that edge as a curve and stays sharp at any size.

The tool redraws the silhouette, not the colours. Wherever the original has a black area, a closed contour appears. The inside of an O or an A stays a real cut out in the path, not a white patch on top.

Suitable source material

• Single colour word marks and symbols with a clear edge
• Exports from old slide decks or websites, at least 600 pixels wide
• Clean scans of letterheads or business cards
• Sources without gradients, drop shadows or transparency effects

The route is the same for every source. Only the slider values differ.

1. Load the image and start in the result viewDrag your PNG, JPG or WEBP into the drop area. The result view shows right away what the source turns into.
2. Split black from whiteSet black level, contrast and brightness until every line you want is there and the rest disappears.
3. Remove leftovers with the lassoCircle whatever has to go. Hold Alt and the lasso flips around, so only the selection stays.
4. Check the contour in the vector viewInspect counters, gaps and the thinnest parts. Outlines shows the same shape as a bare line.
5. Smooth and simplify with restraintRaise both shape sliders in small steps until the pixel staircase is gone and the shape still holds.
6. Export the format you needDownload the result as PDF, SVG, EPS, DXF or a cleaned PNG. The download starts immediately.

For the website and for anything that gets edited later, take SVG. Print shops and sign makers prefer PDF because the file opens the same way everywhere. EPS only wins when the other side works with a very old program.
