It started with a recurring annoyance: the drawing is finished on the table, but the machine next to it wants a contour and not a photo file. Between the two sat an expensive program and a dialog full of jargon.
So the first version of this tool was one slider and a preview. The idea behind it stayed: whoever vectorizes a source wants to see what happens instead of guessing what an algorithm just decided.
A clean path is the difference between an idea and a file a machine understands.
06 · Understanding vectors
A raster image is made of dots. Enlarge it and the dots grow while the edge frays. A vector path describes where the edge runs instead, as a sequence of curves. That description holds at any size.
What is created here are black paths with real cut outs. The inside of a letter is not a white patch on top but a hole in the path. That is why the shape sits correctly on a coloured ground and a cutting machine knows where to separate.

Yes. Only the black shape becomes paths, everything else stays empty. In SVG, PDF and EPS the background is transparent.
Start with SVG. If the machine software refuses the import, take DXF: there every contour sits as a closed polyline on its own layer.
The result is always single colour. For several colours, vectorize each area separately and stack the results afterwards.
PNG, JPG and WEBP. Very large images are scaled down to a working size internally, while the export stays high resolution.
